PROVO -- Bruce Brockbank, BYU head men's golf coach, announced the signing of Clay Ogden, one of the nation's top golf recruits.
"I've had my eye on Clay (Ogden) the last several years," Brockbank said. "I love his attitude and his work ethic. He looks like a players, acts like a player and plays like a player."
The West Point, Utah, native is a two-time 5A individual state champion and has led Davis High School to the 5A state championship all four years. In the 2001 state finals, Ogden beat current Cougar and former Davis High teammate Daniel Summerhays in a playoff to claim medalist honors.
As one of the most accomplished junior golfers in the country, Ogden has earned numerous honors including being named to the American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) All-American Team in 2002. Ogden is also among the top 60 junior golfers in the world invited to play in the prestigious Thunderbird Classic this winter in Arizona.
Brockbank and his staff are excited about the addition of Ogden to an already talented, young group of golfers.
"I'm looking forward to him coming in and playing next year as a freshman," Brockbank said. "We're going to be very competitive the next few years and he's going to be a big part of that."
