SALT LAKE -- After 40 minutes of play Thursday night with BYU leading 4-2 over Utah, the game was suspended because of snow flurries.
Thursday's game will be completed on Friday at 7 p.m. Friday's regularly scheduled game has been moved to Saturday as the two teams will play a doubleheader at noon. The games are played at Franklin Covey Field.
"I hate to burn a starter, but Jeff (Mousser) probably threw too much, so I don't know who we'll go with," said BYU Coach Vance Law. "It's a shame."
Mousser, 3-2, threw 27 pitches in two innings, striking out four Utes. Utah starter Sean Overholt threw 41 pitches in two-plus innings.
When the game resumes, Cougar Kainoa Obrey will be on third base with one out, having hit a double off the right-center wall to score Ranger Wiens in the top of the third inning.
The Cougars got on board with a three-run first inning when Wiens stole second base. Utah's catcher overthrew second on the attempt and Wiens ended up at third, causing Overholt pressure to walk the next two batters and load the bases. Then Brock Jacobsen hit a two-out double off the left field wall to score two runs. Jake Stubblefield also scored off Rob Itri's infield single, giving BYU a 3-0 lead.
Utah rebounded in the second when Mike Basham hit a two-out, two-RBI triple off the centerfield wall to close the gap, 3-2.
The Cougars had a game suspended last season in March when San Diego State had to leave Provo early to catch an airline flight. That game was later completed in San Diego several weeks later.
