Thorn WNBA Bound, Drafted By New York Liberty

PROVO, Utah (April 25, 2003) All-American guard Erin Thorn was drafted by the WNBA's New York Liberty today. Thorn was the 17th overall pick, the fifth in the second round and the second player drafted by the Liberty team.

Thorn, a four-year starter for BYU's women's basketball team and a three-time All-American leaves for New York Liberty's camp on April 29. The training camp begins on May 1st.

"I'm just excited that it's all done and I know where I'm going," said Thorn. "Now I can start working hard to prepare to play and to compete at the next level."

Thorn was the highest MWC player picked in this year's draft. Two other league players were also selected. Jordan Adams, from New Mexico was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx while Constance Jinks, from UNLV went as the 38th overall pick to the Houston Comets.

The 5-10 guard from Orem, Utah and Mountain View High School, left her name engraved in numerous record-breaking performances during her four-year stellar career at BYU. She became the Cougars' fourth all-time leading scorer with (2,061) total points, is the school's record holder in three-points made in a game with nine, which is also a record for the men's team as well as the record holder in total three-point field goals made in a career with 393.

During her four years, she was named to the MWC All-Tournament team all four years and was the MVP in the 2002 Championship. Most recently she participated in the WBCA All-Star Challenge at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia where she started for the Stripes Team. In the 27 minutes played, she tallied 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. She also received the 2003 Cougar Club Crowd Pleaser Award and finished her career with 39 straight games where she made at least one-three pointer.
