COLORADO SPRINGS -- Nearly 15 minutes after game one between the Air Force Academy and BYU baseball began Thursday, it ended up being suspended until Friday because of afternoon thunderstorms.
The game is scheduled to resume on Friday at 12:30 p.m. as the two teams plan on a doubleheader. The final game of the series will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. KOVO Radio 960 AM plans to broadcast the first game live on Friday.
The Cougars, who brought a 26-21 overall record and a 16-11 Mountain West Conference record, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Doug Jackson walked and scored off Kainoa Obrey's sacrifice fly. In between that action, Ryan Chambers flew out to left field and Ranger Wiens picked up his 25th double down the left field line to advance Jackson. The Cougar inning ended with Jake Stubblefield grounding out to first base.
When play resumes, it will be the bottom of the first inning with one out and two Falcons on base. BYU pitcher Jeff Mousser surrendered a lead-off single and then hit the next batter before an AFA fly-out to Chambers in right field. Due up next for the Falcons is outfielder Josh Phifer.
The Cadets at the Academy are currently in the middle of final exams.
