Colorado Springs, CO. (May 23, 2003) BYU sophomore forward Danielle Cheesman is one of 58 of the nation's top collegiate women's players invited to tryout for one of two 12-member USA Basketball collegiate squads competing this summer in international competitions.
The trials are being held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, May 22-25. The 58 players will be competing for a spot on the USA World Championship For Young Women team and the USA Pan American Games team.
The USA Young Women's National Team which will be comprised of athletes 21-years-old and younger will compete in the inaugural FIBA World Championships in Sibenik Croatia, July 25-Aug. 3, while the 2003 Pan American Games will be played in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from Aug. 2-9.
Cheesman, a 6-2 forward from Orem, Utah and Mountain View High School, finished the 2002-03 campaign as the team's third leading scorer and second leading rebounder averaging 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. She was selected to the MWC All-Tournament Team and was also honored as an MWC Second Team All Conference recipient.
Lindsay Thomas from CSU was also selected. The two 12-member teams will be announced on Sunday, May 25.
