Spring Recruits Sign

Three prepsters and seven junior college transfers, including five pitchers, have signed letters of intent to play baseball for BYU.

"We are excited about the increased depth to our pitching staff to replace graduation and transfer losses," said BYU Coach Vance Law. "We have quality arms in these recruits."

Among the signees are Nick Lemon, 6-2, 190 from Elk Grove, Calif., via Cosumnes River College. He pitched in seven games, starting one with an ERA of 9.00. Lemon batted .244 in 21 games as an outfielder with two other players who were named all-conference.

Two pitchers are from the College of Eastern Utah in Price; Kalen Parsons, 6-2, 215 from Green River (3-5, 3.31, one complete game and one save in 54.1 innings) and Patrick Wells, 6-0, 180 from West Jordan (8-2, 1.29, five complete games, one save in 63 innings with two shutouts).

Nathan Hess, 6-5, 200 from Preston, Idaho, transfers from Salt Lake Community College via Snow College. Hess was 4-2 with a 4.64 ERA last season in 33 innings with 37 strikeouts and six complete games.

Sophomores Ben Saylor, 6-4, 200, a first baseman/outfielder from Sandy, and Brandon Taylor, 6-2, 190, an infielder from Orem, both recently returned from Church missions, are transferring from Utah Valley State, as is Bryce Burger a right-handed pitcher. Burger, 6-5, 225, is a junior from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and played briefly at the University of Utah. He had seven appearances and nine innings for a 7.00 ERA at UVSC last season.

Jonathan Stambaugh, 6-2, 210 is a left-handed pitcher from, Collierville High in Memphis, Tenn.

California freshmen Mike Kessler, 6-2, 210, is an outfielder from Claremont High in California.

Blake Crosby, 6-0, 180, a shortstop from LaQuinta High in Cyprus, Calif., will be departing soon on a Church mission.
