COLORADO SPRINGS -- Senior defender Britney Holman was named co-Defensive Player of the Week by the Mountain West Conference Monday, along with Air Force goalkeeper J.J. Wolf, after her outstanding play in last week's wins.
With her play on the defensive end of the field, Holman helped the Cougars to two victories on the week, including wins over No. 14 USC and Weber State. Holman managed to control her side of the field all week by not allowing a single goal or assist and stopping all advances by her opponents.
In BYU's 2-1 win over the Trojans, Holman held last week's Pac-10 Player of the Week, Hillary Schwarzbach, to no shots, no goals and no assists while either forcing her to pass the ball or stealing the ball from her on every possession.
This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Holman and the fourth this season for the Cougars.
The Cougars (8-3-1) open conference play this week with a home game against New Mexico on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. (MDT).
