(Oct. 7, 2003) -- The BYU softball team swept cross-town rival UVSC in two games Tuesday at Miller Park to improve their fall exhibition season record to 11-0.
The Cougars pulled out the 2-1 victory in game one and made the necessary adjustments in game two to finish 13-1 after the top of the fifth inning.
A three-run homer from junior Milli Jones, her first home run of her career at BYU, was the highlight of the second game. Since her freshman year, Jones has been trying to get the ball over the fence and today she did in the bottom of the second inning.
"I thought it was a foul ball at first," Jones said. "It felt good and sure lifted me up."
Teammates Ianeta Le`i and Debbie Dodds also recorded three-run home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving the team three three-run homers for the night.
"We started out slow in the first game, but we were able to gain momentum going into the second game" coach Vaughn Alvey said.
The team knew they were capable of playing at a higher level and came out strong in game two to get the 13-1 win.
Brooke Boyce was the bright spot on the mound and led the team to a victory in game one. Niki Andersen took over pitching in game two to help BYU hold the Wolverines to one run.
The Cougars will travel to St. George this weekend to take on the Dixie State Rebels at Noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
