LAS -- BYU's Nima Roshan and Jose Lechuga defeated teammates Erik Nyman and Richard Dasek in the final draw of the men's doubles circuit to win the ITA/Omni Hotel Regional Championship in Las Vegas Saturday 8-5.
With the win, Roshan and Lechuga advance to the National Indoor Championship hosted by the University of Michigan November 5-9. The win by Roshan and Lechuga places BYU a half a point ahead of Boise State in the overall tournament.
Entering the final round BYU was unofficially tied with Boise State in the overall bid at 28 points apiece. Should BYU post a first place win in the championship, it will host the 2003 ITA Division I Region 7 Championships November 15 in Provo.
BYU head coach Brad Pearce couldn't be more pleased with the performance by the entire team in the tournament.
"I'm just so proud of the team," Pearce said. "It's times like this just makes it fun to be a coach. Everybody stepped it up and did a great job. It was just awesome."
