CHATTANOOGA -- BYU Senior Erik Nyman defeated Dave Hippee of Wisconsin University (6-0, 6-2)Tuesday to advance to the second round of the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Nyman is the lone Cougar still competing in the tournament. The other seven players on the men's tennis team competed early in the pre-qualifying round of the tournament, but none made it past the second round, including double's team Nyman and Richard Dasek.
Having previously qualified for the tournament, Nyman did not have to compete in the singles draw of the pre-qualifying round.
With Nyman still competing in the singles draw, head coach Brad Pearce and company will remain in Chattanooga to support their teammate.
Nyman will face Zoltan Csanadi of Old Dominion Wed. at 9 a.m. CDT.
