Miller earns first MWC Golfer of the Month citation

COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU junior Todd Miller claimed his first Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month citation for the month of September.

"Todd loves to play the game and he's a great ambassador for the university," head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "It's nice to see Todd recognized for his good performances after recently returning from a mission."

Miller, who returned to the Cougar lineup this year after serving a two-year mission in Chile, has led BYU to earn two top-5 team finishes to begin the season. BYU placed third out of 20 teams at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and tied for fourth out of 10 teams at the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash.

Individually, Miller acquired a fourth-place finish out of 60 golfers at the Husky Invitational to finish one-over-par at 73-72-72--217. At the William H. Tucker Invitational, Miller finished 11th out of 103 competitors with a score of 71-74-72--217. Through six rounds of play, Miller is currently eighth on the MWC's Leader Board with a 72.3 stroke average.

"I'm having fun and trying to play smart golf," Todd Miller said. "I've played some good rounds and it feels good to be finishing in the top-20."

According to Golfweek's collegiate rankings, BYU is ranked 34th in the nation and Miller is ranked 59th individually.

The BYU men's golf team will travel to Fresno, Calif. to compete in the 41st annual Fresno Lexus Classic Friday and Saturday. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,503 yard Belmont Country Club.
