ANN ARBOR -- BYU's Jose Lechuga and Nima Roshan fell in the second round of the consolation draw Saturday in the National Individual Indoor Championship to a tough TCU doubles team 8-3.
"The matches were actually a lot closer than the scores reflected," head coach Brad Pearce said. "I thought they fought hard and played well, but Duke was a strong serving team and TCU just outplayed us."
Match play began Thursday for the Cougars as they lost in the main draw to Ludovic Walter and Jason Zimmerman of Duke University 8-3.
Despite the disappointing loss early in the national tournament, Lechuga and Roshan will represented the Cougar team well and presented a tough showing. Coach Pearce felt the Cougar duo came out and played together as a real team and gave a solid effort.
The National Individual Indoor Championship only invites 16 doubles teams and 32 singles players to the annual event. The National Team Indoor Championship held Feb. 5-8 only invites the top 16 Division I teams in the country and will be hosted by the University of Washington.
In order for the BYU men's tennis team to compete in the National Team Indoor Championship in February it will have to win the Region 7 Team Indoor Qualifier Tournament Nov. 15 hosted by Boise State University.
