PROVO -- Former Cougar soccer player Shauna Rohbock was called to duty last week as the she was activated by the Utah National Guard to help with the fight overseas.
Rohbock, who plays soccer professionally with the WUSA's San Diego Spirit, was preparing for this year's World Cup and 2006 Winter Olympics as the driver of the U.S. women's national bobsled team.
The call to duty means she will no longer be able to compete in the World Cup and may not be able to compete in the Olympics either depending on the duration of her deployment in Iraq.
Rohbock is the first American world-class athlete to be mobilized out of a group of 78 athletes that are currently enlisted in the Army and she is also the first since 9-11 to be activated for duty.
As a Cougar, Rohbock was the first All-American from BYU, earning the honor three times during her career. She holds the Cougar records for most career goals, shots and points as well as ranking No. 6 on the NCAA career scoring.
