Men's Swimming Travels to the University of Washington

PROVO -- The 20th ranked BYU men's swimming team is traveling to Seattle to take on 19th ranked University of Washington on Saturday Jan. 10.

The men's team hasn't competed since their second place finish at the Speedo Cup in November, trailing only third ranked Stanford.

Coach Tim Powers said he doesn't think the layoff will be a problem for his team because they have been training harder than normal during the Christmas break.

"We haven't raced in a while," Powers said. "So we're looking forward to see how we'll perform this weekend."

Powers said the team will be giving up 32 diving points at this meet because only the swimmers will be traveling to the meet.

In Washington's last meet, the Huskies defeated 13th ranked Arizona State in a close meet, winning 126-123. The win was the Huskies first-ever dual meet victory over ASU.

"They're an excellent team," Powers said. "They've defeated 13th ranked Arizona State and 6th ranked USC already this year, so it should be a challenge."
