COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU senior Curtis Pugsley and sophomore Lindsey Steele Metcalf have been named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively after last weekend stellar performances. It's the first career weekly honor for both recipients.

Metcalf won the high jump event at the Air Force Invitational to garner her first career athlete of the week award. The Orem, Utah, native, jumped 6-0.50 (1.84m), an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, to claim the victory. Her mark is a new all-time MWC record, surpassing former BYU high jumper Jeana Bingham's mark of 6-0 (1.83m) set during the 2000 season. Additionally, her mark moves her from sixth place in the BYU All-time record list for high jump to a tie for fourth place with Themis Zambrzycki set in 1979.

Pugsley, a Park Valley, Utah, product, started the 2004 season with a second place finish in the heptathlon at the Air Force Invitational last weekend. His score of 5,552 points was only three points behind first-place finisher Paul Speer (Wichita State, the No. 1 heptathalete in the nation) and automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championships. Pugsley's score currently ranks him third in the nation this season in the heptathlon.
