SEATTLE -- Facing its highest ranked opponent of the season, the BYU men's tennis team gave a valiant effort while dropping its third consecutive road loss to the eleventh-ranked Washington Huskies 6-1. With the loss, BYU falls to 1-3 on the season.
One highlight for the Cougars was Dominik Kaufhold's win over Nick Weiss in a thrilling three set match to dish the Huskies their first lost point of the season. Until meeting the Cougars, the Washington men had not dropped a single set this season.
BYU came close to moving one up on the Huskies in doubles action when senior Eric Nyman (No. 80) and junior Nima Roshan pushed top seeded Alex Slovic and Alex Vlaski (No. 2) to a tiebreaker, nearly edging the Husky duo, 9-8 (4).
In singles play, the Huskies overpowered the Cougars in all five matches, except Kaufhold's win. BYU's No. 1 seed Nyman fell to the second-ranked Vlaski 6-1, 6-2.
Head coach Brad Pearce said the team plans to come home and regroup, practice on toughness and get ready for the rest of the season.
The Cougars will travel to Fresno, Calif. on February 12 to take on the Bulldogs of Fresno State
