Wiens Named Preseason All-American Honorable Mention

PROVO -- CollegeBaseballInsider.com named senior shortstop Ranger Wiens as an honorable mention on its 2004 preseason All-American team.

Wiens is a 2004 third-team Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-American. The Cougars' co-captain set a junior's record for Mountain West Conference games with a .415 batting average last year. His .405 season batting average and 25 doubles ranked among the NCAA leaders in 2003.

Through three games, Wiens leads the Cougars with a .444 average as he readies to face his former team, the University of Nevada (Reno), for the first time. As a freshman in 1999, he started in 17 games for the Wolf Pack. The Cougars will play Nevada on Saturday in the third game of a three-game Pacific Invitational hosted by the University of Pacific.
