COLORADO SPRINGS -- Junior leftthander Patrick Wells of BYU and Air Force junior shortstop Nathan DeRohan and are the Mountain West Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.
Wells, from West Jordan, Utah (College of Eastern Utah), gave the Cougars their first win of the year last week by throwing a complete game vs. Nevada. In nine innings, Wells allowed the Wolf Pack just one run in the second, then threw seven scoreless innings to give BYU a 3-1 victory. He struck out three and walked two of the 32 batters faced.
DeRohan, from Waukegan, Wis. (Waukegan HS), was 5-for-14 (.347) with a pair of doubles, a home run and five RBI in a three-game series vs. New Mexico State. He was 2-for-4 with two RBI on Feb. 7, and nearly hit for the cycle the next day, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBI.
