COLORADO SPRINGS -- Senior Laura Heiner Turner, native of Clifton, Va., for the first time this season was awarded a Co-MWC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after her fifth place finish at the University of Washington's PAC-10 Invitational.
Her 5,000-meter run finish in 16:04.89 earned her an automatic NCAA qualification. Her mark ranks second in Cougar history and is a new all-time MWC record, breaking former BYU runner Elizabeth Jackson's time of 16:05.73 set in February 2000 in Indianapolis, Ind. Turner's time is also currently sixth in the country.
Turner shares this award with Wyoming's Shauna Smith who posted the fastest time in MWC and Wyoming history with first place finish in the 400-meter dash at the Iowa State Invite in Ames, Iowa.
