PROVO -- Enrollment for the 2004 Summer Soccer Camps at BYU is now open with seven weeks of camps available for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
BYU Soccer Camps are a great way for kids and teens to learn the skills of the game from BYU women's head coach Jennifer Rockwood, men's head coach Chris Watkins and players of the PDL's men's team and the women's team that finished fifth in the 2003 NCAA Tournament.
The Cougars host one of the largest collegiate camps in the country and the largest in Utah, with four weeks of camps designated to Academy Camp for those ages 12-18, two weeks of Cub Camps for ages 7-12 and a one-week Mini-Cub Learn To Play Camp for those ages 5-7 with little or no playing experience.
"We want to promote soccer and help the youth develop their skills," said Rockwood who is entering her 10th year as head coach of the women's team and her ninth year directing camps.
Space is limited for these highly popular camps which have sold out by early May the last three years. For that reason the coaches added an additional week this year so that more eager athletes might be able to attend and get the experience of working with two of the top coaches in the NCAA.
The camps also serve as an excellent way for coaches to meet athletes who have interest in attending and playing soccer for BYU. "The camps are a great recruiting opportunity for us to become familiar with each other and our facilities," said Rockwood who has discovered several girls over the years who later played for the Cougars.
