COLLEGE STATION -- Brittany Davis (100 backstroke) and Nikki Xanthos (100 breaststroke) failed to qualify for the finals in their events on the second day of the 2004 NCAA championships held at Texas A&M University.
Davis finished 36th in the 100 back (1:02.47), but was only 1.65 seconds off of the final qualifying time, while Xanthos finished 33rd in the 100 breast (1:11.41)--just over two seconds off the final cut. Davis will be competing in the 200 back on Saturday.
"I am really pleased with how the girls swam today," coach Stan Crump said. "Their times today were close to their qualifying times, but if they were going to advance to the finals they needed to improve on their qualifying time."
The women's swimming and diving NCAA championship meet will conclude Saturday. For complete results please visit www.ncaasports.com/swimming/womens.
