Six Ink Letters of Intent

Five junior college transfers and one prepster join the list of players who have signed letters of intent with BYU baseball.

Pitcher James Platt of the national champion Dixie College Rebels and a pitcher from Salt Lake Community College and the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls and two players from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Calif., comprise the transfers.

Platt, a 6-3, 200 right-hander from Cedar City, was the winning pitcher in the national championship game for Dixie, striking out seven in six innings of relief. Platt tallied a 4-1 record for the Rebels with two saves and a 3.25 ERA.

Brandon Christiansen, a, 6-2, 225 right-hander from West Jordan, registered a 6-8 record with a 3.19 ERA and was second team all-region.

Kam Nelson, a 6-2, 210 right-hander from Orem, was 4-5 with a 2.51 ERA last season for SLCC and is the son of the late Dave Nelson, former Utah Tech baseball coach. Nelson was second team all-region.

Marcos Villezcas, an All-Pacific Coast Conference infielder and Adrian Molina, an honorable mention All-PCC outfielder, are both from Montgomery, Calif., and starred at Southwestern College. Villezcas, 5-11, 175, batted .313. Molina, 6-0, 170, batted .294.

The new prep is Alec Reichle from from Kauai, Hawai'i, was first-team all-state in 2003 before a serious auto accident.

"We have improved our pitching depth and brought in some junior college guys with the experience of a national championship," said BYU Coach Vance Law. "We believe their winning attitude will help us."
