COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Mountain West Conference honored BYU men's volleyball players Jonathan Alleman and Brian Rowley as scholar-athletes for their excellence in the classroom.
The MWC honored all student-athletes that maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the certifying institution, and have competed in at least one varsity contest in their respective sport.
Jonathan Alleman, who recently finished his final year of eligibility, is working toward a master's degree in accounting and holds a 3.50 grade point average. He was a key contributor on the Cougars' 2004 NCAA National Championship team. In 2003 he earned second-team AVCA All-America honors and second-team All-MPSF recognition. In 2004 he was All-MPSF honorable mention. The NCAA recognized Alleman's accomplishments by awarding him with a postgraduate scholarship in June.
Brian Rowley is studying civil engineering and maintains a 3.88 grade point average. Rowley practiced with the first team all season as a libero and should be a key contributor in 2005 as the Cougars look to repeat as NCAA champions. He appeared in one match against George Mason and had four digs and two assists.
