BYU Softball Signs Blue Chip Pitcher

PROVO -- The BYU softball team signed top pitching prospect Summer Tobias, a transfer from the University of Nebraska, to bolster an already strong pitching staff.

In a year where BYU softball has landed one of the countries top high school pitching prospects in Daniela Urincho, Head Coach Gordon Eakin said he was excited about the addition of Tobias to the Cougar squad.

"I recruited her heavily out of high school, but was disappointed to lose her to Nebraska," Eakin said. "I am extremely pleased with her decision to come to BYU. In a pitcher dominated game she'll make us stronger, she's a good one."

In her senior year of high school, Tobias pitched for the California Cruisers, the 2001 eighteen and under Gold team when they finished second in the nation. Tobias was defeated 1-0 in 10 innings of the undefeated winners-bracket game by Cat Osterman who currently is with the University of Texas and plays for the USA Olympic softball team.

Tobias will be entering her junior year and with the addition of Urincho, they add great strength to an already talented team.
