Cougars Work on Red Zone

PROVO -- With only two weeks left until the Cougars kickoff the 2004 season against Notre Dame at LaVell Edwards Stadium, Head Coach Gary Crowton is pleased with the progress his team has made over the course of Fall camp.

"We've been really physical this past week," Crowton said. "So I'm just trying to get them ready so we can have a few more physical days before we polish up for Notre Dame."

The team worked on running and short passing and closed the practice by running a red zone drill. The defense held the offense to just one touchdown during red zone drills.

"Red zone and two minute, those are the toughest drills," Crowton said. "We've been doing well on both sides of the ball in those two drills."

Following practice Crowton said Manaia Brown is recovering nicely from an injury suffered on Tuesday, and that he should be back on the field shortly. Also, Isley Filiaga, a freshman defensive lineman, worked out with the team today after completing eligibility requirements on Friday.

Two-a-days will continue into next week before the team begins to prepare specifically for Notre Dame. The final practice open to the public will be Tuesday, August 24 at 10 a.m. on the practice field.
