Utah Standouts Commit To Play For BYU

PROVO -- Three Utah high school basketball standouts have signed letters of intent to play for the BYU women's basketball team.

Vanessa Hutson, a 5-8 point guard from Murray, and Brighton High School, Shawnee Slade, from Taylorsville High School, and Cassie King from Provo High School have committed to play college basketball for the Cougars and head coach Jeff Judkins.

"These are players that we need to fill in some slots for our team when we lose some of our current seniors," said Judkins. "All three are winners, have great athletic ability, are competitors and are very coachable."

Hutson will be a great addition to the team with her passing, quickness and leadership abilities. She was a two-time Player of the Year, led her team to two state high school championships and is one of 50 Top Players in the country.

Slade, a 5-11 guard/forward, is an all-around athlete that can play several positions. She's an all-state honoree in both basketball and track and is very versatile in both offense and defense. Slade will be a dual sport student-athlete at BYU competing in basketball and in track.

King, a 6-3 center, will have a great opportunity to help out the Cougars' inside and outside game. She's got great feet and hands and is also an all-state honoree in both basketball and volleyball.
