PROVO -- The BYU men's golf team finished the fall season strong by winning two of its final three tournaments to move up to No. 14 in the latest Golf World poll.
The Cougars received 221 points to move up from No. 16.
"Its nice to be recognized for what we've done," BYU coach Bruce Brockbank said. "But we don't want to get caught up in rankings. We've still got some improving to do."
Oscar Alvarez and Greg Machtaler lead the Cougars. Each won an individual title during the fall season. Alvarez sports a team-low 71.4 stroke average, with Machtaler just one-tenth behind at 71.5.
Sophomore Jake Ellison is third on the team with a 73.1 stroke average with senior teammate, Ron Harvey Jr. right behind at 73.3 strokes per round.
Todd Miller rounds out the Cougars' starting five with a 75.4 stroke average. Clay Ogden has also competed in nine rounds this season averaging 74.1 strokes per round.
