PROVO -- BYU Softball signed four new recruits during the early signing period in November. The Cougars expect the new recruits to be great players and are pleased to have them decide on BYU.

"All four girls are going to make a big impact on our team," said BYU head coach Gordon Eakin. "We're excited for them to join us in Fall 2005."

A brief summary on each of the signees is as follows:

Andrea Ramirez, from Royal High School in Simi Valley, Calif., plays for the Southern California Diamonds 18-and-under Gold Team. She is a shortstop with tremendous defensive skills and has game-changing power offensively.

Monica Gonzales, from West Lake High School in West Lake Village, Calif., plays on the Southern California Diamonds 18-and-under Gold Team. She plays in the outfield and at the plate is a left-handed slapper with great speed. BYU looks for Gonzales to make an immediate impact with her speed and defense.

Kacey Garziano is from Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, Calif., and also plays for the Southern California Diamonds 18-and-under Gold Team. She gets a great jump on the ball that makes her a solid defensive outfielder. Offensively, she is a gap-to-gap power hitter with a lot of potential.

Stephanie Platt is coming from Pine View High School in St. George, Utah, and currently playing for the San Diego Breakers 18-and-under Gold Team. She brings great athleticism and speed along with her versatile ability to play both the infield and outfield.
