In the season opener, the BYU men's tennis team showcased their immense depth and talent as they cleanly swept in-state opponents Utah State and Weber State 7-0 apiece in a doubleheader Saturday night.

The Aggies were the Cougars first prey Saturday. The men opened the match up crushing Utah State in doubles followed by a sweep on the singles court. The match was highlighted by the play of Cougars James Ludlow and Shane LaPorte playing in the four and five singles spots respectively. The men never gave up a game, each beating Utah State's Dantley Young and Jonas Tyden by the same score of 6-0,6-0. The Cougars went on to win the match 7-0.

Next it was the Wildcats turn, and the match ended in the same fashion. The Cougars swept Utah State 7-0.

"I'm really pleased, physically we did really well," said head coach Brad Pearce. "This year we have a lot of depth and guys can play at any position."

This was evidenced by the line-up. Not one Cougar played the same singles position he did in the previous match, a testament to the depth of this year's team. It also gives the Cougars needed experience, as the team sports no seniors but three freshman and four sophomores.

The Cougars advance to 2-0 on the season and head out on Wednesday to take on 2nd ranked UCLA.
