BYU sophomore Mark Chay was named Mountain West Conference swimmer of the week for the week ending January 26 after a strong showing against the no. 22 ranked Rainbows Warriors of Hawaii. The award is the second of Chay's career in Provo.
Chay notched wins in the 100 free with a time of 45.62 and his first place finish in the 200 IM with a MWC best time of 1:50.91 opened the door for the Cougars to defeat Hawaii 150-149.
The native of Singapore also logged a second place finish in the 100 backstroke with a MWC best time of 49.72. His lead off leg of the 200 medley relay also helped the Cougars to a second place finish with a time of 1:32.18.
Both the men and women will return to action against the Air Force Academy this Friday at 5 p.m. in Provo.
