PROVO -- The Mountain West Conference announced its 2004 Fall Semester Academic All-Mountain West team Thursday, including 12 women's soccer players.
Women's soccer had 12 of the MWC-high 71 honorees that BYU landed on the team, including MWC Freshman of the Year Erika Woodbury with a 3.69 GPA in the Pre-Athletic Training Program and first-team All-MWC performer Claire Thomas with a 3.52 GPA in biology.
Sophomore Brooke Bowman led the team with a 3.88 GPA in Pre-Accounting. Rounding out the honorees are freshman Natalie Nate, junior Nicole Anderson, junior Charlene Lui, junior Lindsy Humphrey, freshman Carolyn Swenson, sophomore Haylee Cuthbert, sophomore Courtney Asay and sophomore Jenavieve Phillips.
BYU placed 25 more honorees than any other school in the conference, with 71 out of 325.
Student-athletes must have completed at least one term while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, in order to qualify for the honor. The student-athletes must also be starters or significant contributors on their athletic team.
