Colorado Springs, Colo. -- BYU sophomore forward Dani Kubik was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, earning her first career award.
Kubik helped lead the Cougars to two Mountain West Conference victories last week over San Diego State and UNLV.ÂÂ
The 6-3 forward from Lawrenceville, GA has come off the bench the last 10 games. She became eligible to play for the Cougars on Dec. 30 after transferring from Auburn University.
Both games were career-best performances for Kubik as she scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards against each opponent. Against San Diego State, she also had three blocks and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. In the victory over the Lady Rebels, Kubik was 6-for-8 from the floor and posted two blocks. In each game, she played just 18 minutes.
For the week, Kubik averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. She shot 66.7 percent (10-for-15) from the floor and 100 percent (8-for-8) from the charity stripe. BYU (13-7, 4-3) won the last two league games and is tied for second place with CSU. The Cougars take to the road this week with a game against the Rams on Thursday night and at Wyoming on Saturday afternoon.
