PROVO -- Nearly 60 students will participate in a two-part tryout on Monday, Feb. 14, with hopes of becoming members of the University's football program.

BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said there are currently 59 members of BYU's student body who have signed up to participate in the walk-on selection process.

"BYU has a strong walk-on tradition," Mendenhall said. "We plan to continue drawing on the unique strengths of this university's student body to help our football program. We'll be looking for players who meet the established criteria--those who are dedicated and are prepared to give maximum effort."

Candidates will go through a series of drills with their respective position coach at Monday's tryout. After an initial evaluation, those who are selected to continue will participate in a combine-format workout. A final cut will be made after Monday's combine.

Mendenhall said remaining candidates will be evaluated over the next four weeks, and another cut will be made prior to Spring Camp.

The Cougars will open Spring Camp on Monday, March 14. The annual Blue-White game is scheduled for Saturday, April 9. The time for the Spring game has not been determined.
