PROVO -- The 23rd-ranked BYU women's tennis team showed their dominance and skill as they easily handled the 24th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 5-2 Saturday.
The Cougars got the jumpstart early as they won the doubles point as BYU's team of Sourkova/Boulytcheva blanked OU's Orr Griffin 8-0. Pike and McFarlane would clinch the point by beating Oklahoma's team of Braver/Greenly 8-5.
The ladies in blue and white kept the heat on the Sooners as the next three singles wins would be for the Cougars. BYU Freshman Anastasia Sourkova was smoking hot today. After a sweep in doubles, she nearly had a sweep in singles as well. She would give up only one game in the first set, as she cruised to a 6-1,6-0 win over Oklahoma senior Heather Saluri.
Olga Boulytcheva also had a stellar day for the Cougars. Playing the number two singles, Boulytcheva, beat Sooner Bethany Griffin 6-2,6-0. Jennifer Miccoli would clinch the match for the Cougars had she overcame Christy Greenly in two sets 7-5,6-4 giving the Cougars their third straight win over Big 12 opponents. On the year, BYU is 5-1 with their only loss coming to 10th- ranked Washington.
BYU continues its three-week home stretch as they welcome Boise State next weekend in Provo. Admission to the event is free with the tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
