PROVO -- BYU's Women's Soccer team will host the 2nd Annual Indoor Invitational that features six in-state teams, Saturday at the Indoor Practice Facility.
"We're anxious and excited about the spring games," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We haven't played in four months so this is a great time for development and for the players to get some playing time."
The six teams participating this weekend are BYU, Dixie, Weber State, Utah State, UVSC and Utah. Games will be played every hour beginning at 1:30 p.m. with BYU against Dixie. The Cougars play again at 4:30 p.m. against Weber State and Utah State at 9:30 p.m. This past season, BYU defeated Utah 2-1 and Utah State 2-0. Each game will feature two 25-miute halves and a full roster, 11 v 11.
With the recent signings of one of BYU's most balanced and talented recruiting classes ever, the Cougars add nine high-impact players to a team that returns 10 of it's 11 starters. BYU graduated just three players from the young 2004 squad that finished second in the Mountain West Conference. Many players will look for the spring season as an opportunity to showcase their talent and ability.
"We have a lot of young kids that are anxious to prove themselves and we look forward to watching them play," added Rockwood. "We've been training hard and the staff's extremely pleased with the way practice has gone."
The Cougars also get an early peek at next season's competition, opening at home 2005 season against Weber State, followed by Utah State two days later.
The Indoor Practice Facility is located immediately west of South Stadium, 1160N. 150 E. Parents and fans are encouraged to only remain in the facility while their team plays, due to the limited viewing area.
