Six inches of snow in Albuquerque earlier this week has caused the postponement of Thursday's BYU's baseball game with the University of New Mexico.
The Cougars, 11-4-1, now will open Mountain West Conference play with a Friday doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., at Isotopes Park against UNM, 10-9. Both teams are the only squads who sport winning records in the MWC.
The opposing pitchers for that opening contest are righthanders Dave Horlacher (1-1, 4.30) of BYU against Jason Fernandez (4-2, 6.94).
Friday's second game will be tape delayed starting at 7 p.m., locally by KOVO Radio (960 AM) in the first broadcast of the season with Brent Norton calling the play-by-play. In that nightcap, BYU's Brandon Christiansen (1-0, 3.93) will be matched against southpaw Danny Ray Herrera (2-1, 3.38).
Saturday's game at 1 p.m., will be broadcast live locally by KOVO with freshman Blake Torgerson (2-1, 6.33) facing fellow righthander Darren Coltrinari (3-2, 9.36).
UNM was picked to finish second in the league, while the Cougars were selected fourth. BYU currently has an eight-game winning streak, the longest since a nine-game win-streak in 2001.
Following the New Mexico trip, BYU returns home to host UVSC on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before hosting the University of Utah in a three-game series next week.
