PROVO -- Cougar sophomore Brittany Davis swam a time of 2:00.85 in the 200 back to finish up her events at the NCAA Championships on Saturday. Both Davis and women's head coach Stan Crump had high hopes for the event.

"We went out to win that event," Crump said. "I told Brittany she would need to really get after it at the start and I think she just faded in the last 50."

The performance garnered the native of Magna, Utah a 40th place finish in the event. Davis also swam to a 42nd place finish in the 200 free the night before with a time of 1:49.98. The time was only four one-hundredths of a second off her second place finishing time at the Mountain West Conference championships earlier in the month.

"I think Brittany will have a good summer and we'll get back to work," Crump said. "We may try to get our times earlier in the season next year so we can be rested for championships."
