PROVO -- BYU outside hitter Ivan Perez was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week after leading the Cougars to back-to-back victories over No. 3 Hawai'i last Friday and Saturday (March 18 and 19).
The freshman had 18 kills, four blocks and an ace Friday night and was second on the team in hitting percentage at .400 (18-4-30). The native of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico followed up that performance with a 14 kill, three dig and one ace effort on Saturday night. Perez hit .440 (14-3-25) for the match.
In the last three matches, the freshman has raised his hitting percentage from .275 to .315 (237-91-464). Perez is second on the team in kills per game at 3.43 and digs at 1.54 and third in aces at 0.28.
