Brandon Taylor has been named this week to the third team of the Louisville Slugger All-America squad as selected by Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Taylor, who was selected last week as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, becomes BYU's first baseball All-American since 2002 when Dave Jensen was similarly honored.
Taylor, a junior third baseman from Orem, tied national, MWC and school records for different accomplishments in the 2005 season. He tied a national record by hitting twice for the cycle. He tied a league record for most home runs by a junior in MWC games. And he tied a school record with six hits in one game.
Taylor is currently ranked third in the NCAA in RBI, 12th in homers and 18th in slugging percentage. Twice he was named national player of the week, once by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and once by Collegiate Baseball.
Taylor finished this season with a .356 batting average and led the Cougars with 65 runs, 85 hits, 20 homers, 170 total bases, 11 of 14 in stolen bases and 83 RBI.
Other MWC players named to the Louisville Slugger All-America team were New Mexico's Chris Carlson and Jordan Pacheco, to the first and third teams, respectively.
