PROVO -- BYU softball senior catcher Lauren Watson-Perry and junior first baseman Ianeta Le`i were named to the 2005 Softball Easton All-American Second Team, Wednesday.
Watson-Perry had an outstanding season as she finished the season with a 14th national ranking in batting average (.421) and 20th in runs per game (.91) as she received her second All-America honor. Watson-Perry also received MWC Player of the Year despite having a broken thumb near the end of the season.
Le`i, last year's MWC Player of the Year, received her first All-American as she pounded out the season ranking 25th nationally in runs batted in per game at .93. Le`i was also named to the 2005 All-MWC team.
Watson-Perry and Le`i. were two of the three softball athletes to receive an All-America honor in the Mountain West Conference.
BYU softball finished the season (45-14 overall; 16-2) first in the MWC. The Cougars also played in the 2005 NCAA Regional Tournament for the second time in history, upsetting No. 2 Cal 3-1 in the first game of the tournament.
