PROVO -- BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall has announced defensive lineman Michael Marquardt will transfer from BYU.

"Michael has expressed his desire to leave BYU," Mendenhall said. "As a result, we have granted Michael his release. The coaching staff and myself wish him all the best."

Marquardt, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound native of Vista, Calif., earned letterman honors last season, competing in 11 games. Marquardt was credited with five tackles, including one tackle for a loss. He also had two quarterback hurries.
