COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU track and field athletes came away with 88 Academic All-Conference Awards, according to the Mountain West Conference release Thursday.
BYU student athletes received 178 of the 672 total awarded for the 2005 spring season. Track was awarded more than any other sport with 45 women and 43 men receiving honors. Among the athletes named were all-American high jumper Lindsey Metcalf and standout 400 and 800-meter sprinter, senior Lars Kjerengtroen.
The women's swimming and diving team was next in line with 21 athletes qualifying, followed by men's swimming and diving team with 20.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
