Provo, Utah (August 16, 2005) -- The BYU men's track and field team tied for third in the 2005 All-Academic Team selections released Friday from the National Collegiate Division I Track Coaches Association. The women's team was also selected fifth on the national level.

The men carried a team average GPA of 3.25 and while the women maintained a 3.35 grade point average. Individual honors include high GPAs by seniors Nathan Robison with a 3.7 and Lindsey Metcalf with a 3.9.

In order to qualify, teams must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Individuals must post a GPA of 3.25 or higher to be selected to the team.

The men and women's track teams proved to be academic powerhouses last season. Just last month 43 men and 45 women received Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors. Among the athletes named were all-American high jumper Lindsey Metcalf and standout 400 and 800-meter runner, senior Lars Kjerengtroen.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
