PROVO, Utah -- (Sept. 15, 2005) -- Everyone took the court Thursday -- even BYU coach Brad Pearce -- as the Iman's Court Open at BYU marched strongly through its second day of competition. Each player played multiple matches on a day showcasing nine straight hours of tennis.

Two Cougars, Dominik Kaufhold and James Ludlow, especially stood out. Each of them won both their singles matches, then the two paired off to win two doubles matches. With the wins, Kaufhold and Ludlow advanced in the tournament and have the chance to play against their coach and former Wimbledon quarterfinalist Brad Pearce and his doubles partner Dan Battistone.

The rest of the team also performed well. Seniors Nima Roshan and Jose Lechuga won both their doubles matches convincingly. Zach Warren won his first match in an exciting three sets, and Chip Hand, after not playing the first day, won his first match 6-1, 7-6. Jonathan Sanchez and Ivan Kokurin were forced to play against each other late in the afternoon, with Sanchez squeaking out the victory in two sets.

Coach Pearce said he is very pleased with the way the open tournament has gone up to this point. Aside from having the chance to watch his own players, Pearce is excited about the involvement of local players.

"It was great to see some of the better local juniors and their families out playing, and playing against collegiate athletes," he said. "It was satisfying to see the local community involved."

The Iman's Court Open continues Friday, with the early matches beginning at 10 a.m. All matches will be played at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Admission is free and open to the public.
