WINNIPEG -- Victor Batista and the Dominican Republic National Team finished fourth at the NORCECA Volleyball Confederation's Continental Senior Championship.
The Dominican Republic finished second in its pool with a 2-1 record. After losing to Cuba 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-10) in a close match, Batista and the Dominicans rebounded to win their final two pool matches with a 3-2 upset win over Canada (25-19, 19-25, 31-29, 24-26, 17-19) and a blowout 3-0 victory over Panama (25-13, 25-17, 25-9). From there they advanced to the semifinals with a win over Mexico (25-22, 21-25, 28-26, 25-23).
In the semifinals the Dominican Republic lost to the USA 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15). From there they played for the bronze against Canada. The Dominicans could not earn another win over the hosts, falling 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-13).
Batista was solid throughout the tournament, finishing the tournament among the top-10 in hitting percentage and passing.
