PROVO -- BYU head softball coach Gordon Eakin has been selected as one of 16 coaches to the Quadrennial Coaching Pool, assigned to various duties with the U.S. National Team over the next three years, all in preparation for the 2008 Olympics.
"It is a tremendous honor to be associated with the National Team," Eakin said. It is an exciting opportunity to work and associate and help develop the best players in the world. It is also an honor to be around some of the best coaches in the world."
Eakin recently returned from a training session in Chula Vista, California where 34 players were vying for the 22 spots on the U.S. National Team that will compete for the next three years in preparation for the Olympics.
In the future, there will be opportunities for Eakin to participate in upcoming sporting events like the World Cup and Pan Am Championships.
In his three seasons as head coach Eakin has led the Cougars to a 115-49 record (.701) and was 45-14 last year while winning the Mountain West Conference crown.
