PROVO -- The fall tennis season begins this week for the BYU women's tennis team as they host the annual BYU Invitational Sept. 22, 23 and 24.

The reigning Mountain West Conference champions will compete against athletes from Boise State, Colorado State, Utah, Utah State and Weber State. BYU coach Craig Manning said the six schools competing in the event make for a tough draw and good competition at the invitational.

Since this is the first tournament of the fall season, Manning said he is not worried about wins and losses, but about finding out what his team needs to do in order to be successful in April.

"This tournament is really just a warm up for us," he said. "It's good to see where we are and the things we need to identify and work on so we'll be ready when it really counts."

The BYU Invitational begins Thursday with matches starting at 10:00 a.m. Matches on Friday and Saturday will begin at 9:00 a.m. All matches will be played on the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Admission is free and open to the public.
