PROVO -- After a second-place finish at the William H. Tucker Invitational last week, the BYU men's golf team is ranked No. 7 in the first GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll of the 2005-06 season.

The Cougars enter the fall coming off a No. 4 finish at the NCAA Championship last June, their best national showing in 19 years. Defending national champion Georgia claimed the top spot in the poll, and Mountain West Conference opponent UNLV, who won the Tucker Invitational, is ranked fourth.

The poll is voted on by a panel of Division-I head coaches who are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released Oct. 7.

BYU will next look to climb the rankings Sept. 26-27 at the PING Preview in Sunriver, Ore.
