SAMMAMISH -- The No. 22 BYU women's golf team faced some adversity Tuesday in Round 2 of the Edean Ihlandfeldt Invitational at the Sahalee Country Club, falling from fifth place to 11th in the 14-team field.
The Cougars shot a season-high team round of 325 (+37), 19 shots behind their first-round pace, to slide down the leader board. Junior Alexis Edwards shot the lowest round of the day for BYU at 5-over 77, moving her to a tie for 13th place, while her teammates each scored 82 or above.
"We had a pretty lousy day," BYU head coach Sue Nyhus said. "But we hope to learn from it and do better tomorrow."
A combination of a tough course, which Nyhus said may be one of the top 100 in the country, wet weather and stiff competition may have led to the Cougars' rough showing on Tuesday. Including BYU, seven Top-25 teams are playing at the Ihlandfeldt Invitational, with an additional four of the top 50 teams. No. 8 Arizona State leads the pack at 19-over 595.
Nyhus said she was optimistic about tomorrow's final round and said her team will be ready to play.
"Sometimes you have to have a little adversity to help you stretch and learn and grow," she said.
