DALLAS -- In the first of two matchups of the last two NCAA National Champions, the Cougars defeated the Pepperdine Waves 3-1 (30-27, 30-23, 21-30, 30-21) at the UT-Dallas Activity Center Friday night.
BYU, which won the title in 2004, was led by the solid hitting of Taylor Evans, Victor Batista and Russell Holmes, the blocking of Jonathan Charette and the passing of Brian Rowley.
"Everyone played well tonight," Assistant Coach Grayson DuBose said. "We passed well and that allowed us to run our offense the way we want."
The Cougars and Waves will play the second exhibition match Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Activity Center.
